Evia Prefecture

Evia, the second largest island of Greece and the third in the eastern Mediterranean, is located close to the Prefecture of Attica. The island actually resembles an extension to mainland Greece. The main gateway to the island from mainland Greece is at Halkida from where there is a bridge that you can cross with your car or bike. There are also ferry boats traveling to and from the island at seven different locations.

Evia is divided into three parts - the north, central and south region. Each of these contain a huge number of beautiful villages, coastal resorts and quaint towns, offering a wonderful selection of holiday destinations throughout the year.

The capital of Evia, Chalkida, has been the capital since antiquity. Nowadays it is a modern town, with many shops, banks, bars, restaurants etc. Here, you can visit an interesting archaeological museum and see the ruins of ancient temples, as well as a 15th century fortress. Agia Anna, Agiokambos, Aedipsos, Amarynthos, Avlonari, Almyropotamos, Vassilika, Lefkandi, Gouves, Eretria, Istiea, Karystos, Kymi, Limni Evias, Lihada, Marmari, Styra, Pefki, Politika, Rovies, Steni Dirfis, Psahna and Orei, are some of the most popular resorts of Evia, with natural beauties, traditional houses, archaeological sites and other interesting sightseeing areas.
